Suitcases packed, tickets bought, game face on- you are more than ready for your long awaited vacation! Of course, there is nothing wrong with being excessively enthused about your trip- you’ve only been waiting to go for the past six months right? It is easy to get caught up in the hype and excitement of traveling, but remember- safety always comes first. So here are a few tips that will ensure your vacation is not only filled with adventure and exhilaration, but is also a safe and secure one.

When traveling to a foreign place, be sure to leave behind copies of your itinerary, passport data page, and visas with family members or close friends. In the event of an emergency it is always beneficial if someone close to you knows your travel schedule. That way if anything unexpected occurs, even if they aren’t close to you location wise, they can aid you overseas.

While you’re in a foreign country you must abide by their laws. Therefore it is crucial to always familiarize yourself with your destination, its rules/regulations, and local customs. Just like every country has its own language for verbal communication, they also have distinctive methods of non verbal communication/interaction. Therefore understanding the culture will provide for an easier and safer trip.

If you have irreplaceable objects, valuables, or anything you would truly hate to lose, leave them at home. It is understandable to want to bring along your favorite items especially when you’re on a fun holiday but no matter how careful or cautious of a person you may be, it just isn’t worth it to carry along priceless material. Flashy jewelry, designer purses, and expensive clothing may also draw attention making you the target of a crime. Don’t take that risk- be as inconspicuous as possible while you journey.

Traveling is an amazing experience and when done correctly it can be positively life changing. But similar to everything else in this world, it is imperative to proceed with caution. Do your research in advance, always be prepared, and constantly be aware of your surroundings. If you do, you will not only have a fantastically awesome trip but also a safe one that you can tell your friends and family about when you get back to home base :)
