Legal Nomads: Where culture, food & travel intersect

Where culture, food & travel intersect

Crush4Fun – is OUR definition of an “Online Crush”

Former Lawyer Jodi Ettenberg did what every passionate traveler wishes they could do, she left behind her job of 5+ years after she had saved up enough to fulfill her lifelong dream of traveling around the world and made sure to document it all in her travel blog Legal Nomads.  In high school she fell in love with a documentary about Trans-Siberian trains which triggered her obsession with traveling the world and making the Trans-Siberian train just a part of her adventure. Many travelers have dreams about leaving everything behind and going on to do what they love, to see the world but few follow through. Jodi began her journey in 2008 and spent the first part of her trip in South America; eventually she made her way to South Africa, Russia and a significant number of locations in Asia spending three months traveling in Thailand.  To her surprise she fell in love with Asia, with the people, the culture and even just the day to day occurrences like Dogs on Motorbikes! You may think it’s a little strange but apparently it’s normal to ride about on your scooter in Thailand with not one, not two, but three tiny dogs accompanying you!

If your favorite part about traveling is experiencing new and exotic foods than Jodi’s food blogs will satisfy all of you food junkies. A sucker for good food at a good price Jodi knows how to find delicious, authentic food at a great price.  Love seafood? Than port cities that have an abundance of fish are the place for you, like the El Nido in Palawan when she was in the Philippines.  She enjoyed a delicious whole fish stuffed with herbs, tomatoes and onions for a mere $3.00. Sure you can’t try the dishes she has but you sure can enjoy looking as the pictures she takes when documenting her meals, your mouth will be watering for sure.

Has all this got you hyped up and thinking about how you can travel and sightsee the world? Jodi provides readers with an abundance of travel resources to learn about how they can start planning and take the first step to living out their travel dreams. Read about starting your plans and considering details like weather and especially about getting the right vaccinations so that you aren’t restricted from visiting anywhere you plan on going. She provides information on how to budget and save accordingly and give yourself a “travel salary”; for her adventures she guestimated anywhere from $12,000-$15,000 a year, but depending on where you’re traveling items may be cheaper or more expensive so you have to plan accordingly. Most importantly she provides you with a few resources that will teach you about Career Breaks and Career Transitions for those of you who want to leave behind the old and start with the new.

Jodi is a great example of someone who worked hard to be able to eventually (and in her case it didn’t take her too long) to do what she is truly passionate about. Her story demonstrates that with a work and dedication you can do exactly what you want to do and that there really are no obstacles except for the ones that you put up yourself.
